Did you see fireworks? My camera has a special firework setting but is very slow when using that, this are the best pictures I have. One hour after our New Year we always see the BBC and watch the "Big Ben" and fireworks in London, very beautiful.
These are excellent shots!! I didn't go anywhere to see the fireworks but I could hear some going off. Over here we have the big peach drop in Atlanta and one of our local small towns has the "possum drop". Honest. lol
Love the fireworks. We were in a Watch Night service at our church Christmas Eve night. We were in the altar praying the old year out and the new year in so I was not around fireworks.
I see Dot's post above. Yes, in Tallapoosa, GA. they have a "Possum drop" because Tallapoosa used to be called Possum Snout in the 1800's.
These fireworks pictures are the best! You captured the colors and action beautifuly! We had a family gathering and at midnight sat around the TV and watched the ball drop in New York City.
Dick - yes, Virtual Journey is the main blog. The other's are outliers that I may or may not develop - I like the idea of having a main page and others people can browse if they feel like it - find it gives the photos and stuff more space to 'breathe' rather than slipping into archives. Bit like a magazine, I suppose.
New to blogging, so am enjoying experimenting - and seeing how other folk like yourself make real impact with their blogs!
Dick - thanks - agree fully on the dark backgrounds; think the choice on blogger is restrictive for photographs.
I went with the minima black at first, but though it gives the pictures - especially the smaller ones - much more throw, the line length for text on that template is frustrating; and by Christmas I found it was a bit dark having all the blogs themed that way.
I used to have a photo blog with a choice of linen effect backgrounds, which really suited to showing shots of oil paintings on canvas etc.
Would be wary myself of tackling html changes, but son is in the computer science area, so gives me that option. Funnily enough, I was tempted to change just the main blog back to black before you commented!
Dick - have just changed the main photo blog - Virtual Image - back to black. You're right - gives the orchid photos particularly a real punch. Its too cramped on the main page; pity they don't do stretch in dark shades as yet.
Hi, These are excellent.I saw some lovely fireworks being set off by some of our neighbours but I didn't take any photos.I wish I had now but I doubt they would have been anywhere near as good as these.
Great photos! MY camer takes pics of fireworks too (a fireworks mode) but I have no idea how to use and actually have pics that turn out. I posted some pics of 4th of July a while back of fireworks, but they're nothing like yours.
Hi Dick, So I see you made the pictures as you promised from the fireworks... we were having some "poor" small fireworks...
Magnificent!!! I hope I do half as well on the Fourth of July (the only time we see fireworks). I only have one time a year to practice. My Sky Watch Friday is here.

Happy New Year!
Wow! I think you did a great job with these....I am terrible at night shots!
I didn't even stay up for Midnight...I had travelling the next day that I had to get up early for.
Beautiful shots! I'm just starting out with my Canon Rebel XT...

Lovely tracery on these shots.
I didn't see the London ones, but gather they ran up a bill of 100k a minute. Son recently took some good ones on camera video mode.

I've tried a few times to get good shots of fireworks but not yet managed it.

Ziet er niet slecht uit, dacht ik. Die 1e lijken net van die paardebloem-pluizen.
I love fireworks! I have a fireworks setting on my camera, too - but I haven't quite figured it out yet.
The three photos you show are well done. I've never managed to make good ones from fireworks.
Dear Dick, I wish you a happy new year 2008.
You got some good ones here, Dick! No, I did not see fireworks this year except through photos like yours. So Dank je wel!
