B17G 43-38992

Vandaag op de dag van de dodenherdenking een paar foto's van een monumentje aan de Watermolenweg. Het verhaal is te lezen op de gedenksteen en het is goed om er even bij stil te staan. Deze mannen van rond de 20 jaar hadden nog een heel leven voor zich en sommigen hadden misschien zelfs nu nog wel geleefd. De negatieve wending in de Irak oorlog mag ons niet doen vergeten dat de Amerikanen ook voor onze vrijheid hebben gevochten en natuurlijk was het ook in hun eigen belang om te voorkomen dat de dreiging van Nazi-Duitsland nog groter werd.

Wow. I cannot read Dutch or German or any language but was able to pick out B-17 and the names of the airmen who were on the B-17 that crashed or was shot down. I don't know which. I think it is remarkable that your country/people keep the grave site up and even have flowers on it. Those men, were cut down in the prime of life and are still that age. It is a shame -- wars.

This monument facinates me!

The pilot (W. Baldwin) identified on this plaque is the Uncle of my wife.

I would like to learn the specific location of this monument (i.e., road, specific distance from an intersection. Also, I have seed another picture (might be this monument but was on the side of a road. Are they the same?
