Sam

This was our pet in 2002. Yes, it is a "rat" but he was the sweetest pet we have ever had.

A rat or a cat - what is the difference? It your pet and your (and his) enjoyment. That is what counts.

It was nice picture of Sam,too.

Thanks so much for visiting Dick! It's great to be feeling better. Pets are such wonderful additions to our families. I have a dog (Riley) that always knows when I'm not feeling well, she's always been a great comfort. Very expressive too!

I heard once so telling me that rats are actually one of the sweetest animals for kids.. I guess a movie like Ratatouille featuring a rat as a star chef will have increased the interest in this animal. what happened since 2002?

I used to breed these at one time.. mostly white one but one or two brown and mixed coloured. I agree that they make very good pets, handled with care and treated with respect these amimals are very loving. At the time I kept rats my favourite would be in the house most of the day. At that time I had a Long Haired German Shepherd dog.. the rat would snuggle up to him and both were best of friends. My dog would carry the rat about in his mouth.. never hurting him.
Your is a nice colour, and one I would have been happy to breed from. I sold the ones I breed through pet shops. I kept ferrets and polecats, finches, canaries, and many more small animals and birds at one time. Now we have no pets.. only a tame squirrel that calls for food and will sit on my chair or knee and feed.

I am sorting out my blog today.. I am moving you link to a new section so if you see it is now where it normally is.. fear not it is still here.

I've had several pet rats and I dearly loved them. One always rode on my shoulder around the hospital where I worked and startled the patients and visitors. LOL!

Ik weet nog, dat ik hem eens vastgehouden heb, en vond hem ook meteen lief. Meestal bijten ze me, maar deze niet. Erg leuk!

Lezard - after 2002 he died rats don't get so old.

Donna - the interaction with people is amazing but they need a lot of attention.

Mary - I agree

Anna Lys - they are very intelligent, this one was very smart for sure. In their own groups they have a complicated social structure.

This is a very cute rat, the ears and the snout are so pink. What has happened to him?

Dick said...

April - He died only a few months after this picture was taken. I think he was 2 years but that's not unusual for a rat.
