Good business

I'm running out of photos so I have to search in my archive. This is on board the ferry to Texel, you can see the other ferry in the harbor. Everything needed on the island has to be transported by these ferries. The maximum load of this ship (Dokter Wagemaker) is 300 cars and 1750 passengers. click here to see the Wiki page. I'm a shareholder too, the value of my share was originally 2 euro ( guilder in those days ) but it's worth now 5000 euro. Good business. lol.

Viewed from the Texel side. The ferry departs each hour from Texel - Den Helder and when there is a lot of traffic ( in the tourist season ) both ferries are operational and you can go each half hour. Good for you to know in case you would like to visit me, hahaha.

O sea! I LOVE it more than everything. This reminds me my voyage upon life's sea...
Is it shore of Texel?

PS Many thanks Dick for your support and inspiration on my Dutch. Sooner or later I'll become fair fluent, that's only matter of time for me:)

Ooopss sorry. Caused a tech problem on our access to blogger, it hardly loaded the pix without no text. Now I get a chance to be able to read all your explanation Dick. OK, I see it's a view from the Texel side:)

Greetings from Spring-like Istanbul:)

I was in The Netherlands back in 1972 (age 20 by the way) when I backpacked through Europe but never made it to Texel. I think now instead of trying to see all of Europe I'd rather pick a place like this and get to know it well.

What a huge ferry. And what do you mean by adding hahaha to your last sentence?! I'd love to visit someday. My neighbor friend goes to Texel for a retreat every summer. Maybe she will show me the way to the ferry. :)

Wow. I guess that more than makes good your losses on Fortis, or does it?
Nice pictures by the way!

My relatives on my mom's side came from Friesland. Maybe I will get over there to see you one of these days. :-)
That is one giant ferry!!

What a size - I watch the ferries when I go back to the Humber estuary up North, Dick. Like the scorpion shot - used to get fluorescent ones down near the old docks.

Wow Dick! That was excellent business indeed! And the ferries are impressive, I bet you get many tourists during the high season.

You know Dick, my heart jumps when I see your pictures (*sigh*). I received this summer two of them of Den Helder and Texel harbour with a ship called 'Ice flowers'. Among many others. That was an unforgettable summer.

I know I'll make it there, don't know when, but probably not alone. It will be a dream come true, and be sure that I'll visit you ;))

I confess to being ignorant when it comes to Texel, beyond what I've learned here, but the size of your ferry made me wonder. So, I've just supplemented your tour by mousing around your island on Google earth. Is Texel a resort area? Perhaps you've said that and I missed it. From the air it looks as if you have beautiful beaches, lots of agriculture, and some light industry. The ferry seems as large or larger than those that serve the major island resorts south of Boston. Is the traffic on the ferry largely vacationers or daily commuters?

Guess I have to start
planning the trip ;-)

Nihal - You are welcome

June - That must have been a great adventure, do you have photos of your travel?

Dina - It seems to be a small world, you are welcome.

Thyme - You didn't forget about that!!!!!! lol.

Happyone - I remember you mentioned it before. Friesland is a nice place we go there sometimes.

Julie - Fluorescent ones? Wow

Leni - (((*_*)))

Ted - No it's not a resort but you know an island is different and that attracts a lot of tourists. Maybe I'm gonna show more pictures of the Texel community!!!!!

Anna-Lys - Yes you have to do that.

Lilli - I might have to do so.

Thanks all for your great comments.

These are wonderful shots. I love the lines in the first and the vast beach in the second.

I don't know why.., I just enjoy watching all your photos.

You have large ferries, which indicates large traffic. I hope the recent "crash" at the stock exchanges hasn't hurt you shares. If you have more pictures like the first one - please post them!

PS Thank you for the comment!

Hi Dick! You have to explain how do you turn 5 guilders into 5000 euro... ;))
Meanwhile Blogtrotter is in Tunisia, waiting for your comments! Hope you enjoy and have a great weekend!

The first photo is very well designed; I like all that cirss-cross of railings (?right word?) and the maritime details.

The second: I'm astonished what a big ship that is.

Nice shots! That's an impressive ferry! Do you have to take a ferry to get there?

Mary Stebbins Taitt said...

I guess if you are on an Island, you would have to! That must get expensive though, when you want to leave. Or come back.

Dick said...

Mary - Yes you have to take the ferry but we have a small airfield too. The ferry is not so expensive traveling as a passenger only.

That's good! I would hate to feel stranded by the high cost of travel. :-D

I like this picture! :-D
