Earlier in this year I saw this strange stuff, it seems this tree has a brain. I wasn't be able to take a good closeup because I didn't have my camera with me, this is a cell phone picture.

Eeuww... But if it is a brain, I hope the tree is thinking nice thoughts. :)
Hmm, our rugby players here in N.Z. get ears like that ... we call them cauliflower ears. If you have ears to hear ... or a brain ...what could you tell us wise tree?
You are really good to be able to use your phone camera to produce such a great photo. That must be some sort of fungus but it sure does look like a brain would!
I wonder if it has changed now that it is ripened, it has probably opened. It is huge. I have seen more and bigger mushrooms this year than I have ever seen. Some I am afraid to touch, they look so .. alive...
Weird but true! Let me say.. be it with brain or without brain, a tree is the most noble and more glorious creature of the nature. Stated by some above, I was just thinking the same, may be it's a mushroom bouquet. Very successful finding as well as good shot.
I did some research and found out it is "Laetiporus sulphureus" the Dutch name "Zwavelzwam". The book says you can eat it as long as it's growing but it doesn't look tasty to me. It's yours Amrita.lol. Yellow Brain Fungus is a good name, it explains everything.
Dot - I don't remember what kind of tree it is and there is no sap on the tree, I guess it is the low quality picture that makes it look like that.
Thyme - I have seen it a several times after I took this photo and it shrinked till there was nothing left.
How very strange and fascinating. Methinks I’ll pass on ‘eating’ it because it doesn’t look ‘tasty’ to me either! I’m catching up today belatedly. I was 'almost wordless' at Sacred Ruminations yesterday ... rather Whimsically Wordy at Small Reflections. Hugs and blessings,
Hi Dick! Amazing picture! Great eye for the detail... Want to have a look at a magic place: Delos, Apollo’s birthplace and home to Dionysus sanctuary? Blogtrotter has it! ;)) Hope you enjoy! Have a great weekend!

Fantastic find. Looks like a fungus...good enough to eat LOL
What kind of tree is that? To me it looks like a pine with sap oozing out.

You took a great picture with a cell phone!
This brain looks like pudding. Yeah, sometimes my brain feels like that. I'm amazed no mushroom expert has come by to ID it.

Nice photograph of Yellow Brain Fungus. Or, that is what it is called over here.

Hugs and blessings,
The name sid it all - though It almost made me think of brain-tumours,
Well done for a camera - they are usually not so hot with contrasts.
That is some gross looking stuff but it makes an interesting picture.....not one I would want to frame and hang on my wall though. LOL
A brain or some reef from the sea!

Great looking fungi!! And you took it with a CELL PHONE???hahaaa...you're just GOOD!!!hughugs
That looks really cool!!!
Oh, for a cell phone picture it is very good. And those funghi are so typical for autumn.
Oh my gosh that is definitely a weird looking thing, does look like a brain
Those look like chicken of the woods, which are edible and quite tasty.
I just gave you a BFF award on my Detroit Daily, hope you didn't already get 12 of them.
Amazing photograph with marvellous contrast and amazing colours.
Fantastic.....I snapped the same (?) similar on an oak tree here some weeks ago.
Oh my, tree with a brain, yeah it does look strange, lol, but great shot though, Anna :)
The clarity of all these photos is exciting sandy
Why do you want another camera if you have such a phone? Fun picture Dick.
